Abstract In order to study the anti-penetration performance of ceramic/aramid fiber/PE-UHMW composite armor, based on FEM-SPH coupling algorithm, SPH model is established for brittle ceramic materials simulate formation cone, crack propagation and fragmentation splash process. The failure mode aramid fiber PE-UHMW analyzed. influence different projectile velocities impact points armor are results show that panel in absorbs part kinetic energy through passivation, fragmentation. modes laminates mainly delamination shear failure, bending deformation tensile fracture. compression facing surface small-scale back layer fiber. When velocity less than ballistic limit, absorption maximum plate increase with velocity. greater rate begins decrease. point located at edge block, can’t effectively consume projectile, presents bad performance.
